ARCHEWELL FOUNDATION

Archewell Foundation is an impact-driven non-profit created by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Our core purpose is to uplift and unite communities — local and global, online and offline — one act of compassion at a time.

We believe that compassion is the defining cultural force of the 21st century. Some of our projects and partnerships include:

ASPEN INSTITUTE

In 2021, The Duke of Sussex through his work at Archewell Foundation was appointed to the Aspen Institute Commission on Information Disorder; serving as a commissioner on a panel focusing on the sources and causes of the information crisis. Alongside leaders from the public and private sectors, policy experts, academics, and researchers, the Aspen Institute’s Commission is developing recommendations to address society’s growing misinformation and disinformation emergencies across government, media, civil society, and industry.

CENTER FOR HUMANE TECHNOLOGY

Led by former Google Design Ethicist Tristan Harris, the Center for Humane Technology is dedicated to radically reimagining our digital infrastructure. As seen in last year’s specially curated edition of TIME100 Talks, Archewell Foundation has worked with CHT on dialogues that create the conditions for safer, more compassionate online communities. As we increasingly understand the direct link between technology and its effect on each of us — online and offline — Archewell Foundation will continue to prioritize critical work around the state of our digital world.

GLOBAL CITIZEN

In partnership with Global Citizen, Archewell Foundation is helping to lead a worldwide effort to equitably distribute COVID-19 vaccines to the global population. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex served as Campaign Chairs of Global Citizen’s VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World, which mobilized critical funds — more than $360 million — for the ACT-Accelerator and COVAX, the vaccine sharing program co-led by the World Health Organization. This partnership has been raising awareness about vaccine inequity, supporting vaccine dose sharing, reducing COVID-19 misinformation, and improving public-private collaboration.

UCLA CENTER FOR CRITICAL INTERNET INQUIRY (C2I2)

Archewell Foundation has established the Archewell Foundation Fund at the UCLA Center for Critical Internet Inquiry, under the shared leadership of acclaimed researchers, professors, and authors Dr. Safiya Noble and Dr. Sarah T. Roberts. The Fund supports research and program development, as well as the goals and overall mission of C2i2: reimagining technology, championing racial and economic justice in the tech sector, and strengthening democracy through culture-making and public policy work.

WORLD CENTRAL KITCHEN Archewell Foundation and Chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen have established a joint philanthropic partnership in the service of healing families and strengthening local communities around the world. As the anchor to the partnership, Archewell Foundation has provided the financial commitment for World Central Kitchen to build four Community Relief Centers in regions disproportionately impacted by hunger: with three already underway in the Commonwealth country of Dominica, Puerto Rico, and the Indian city of Mumbai. These Centers will act as emergency service kitchens during times of high need or disaster, and as food distribution hubs, schools, clinics, or safe community gathering zones during non-disaster times. In addition to this partnership, Archewell Foundation recently made a donation to support World Central Kitchen’s emergency response in the wake of the earthquake in Haiti.
